Waste Management IBCs

IBC Totes for Industrial & Hazardous Waste

IBC containers for industrial liquid waste collection, hazardous waste containment, and byproduct storage prior to processing or disposal. UN/DOT certified high density polyethylene (HDPE) and metal IBCs provide compliant, reusable containment for waste streams from manufacturing, chemical processing, and facility operations. These totes are also used in environmental management, remediation, and response applications. Containment pallet systems are available for secondary containment compliance.

IBC Totes in Waste Management & Industrial Waste Operations

Industrial facilities, manufacturers, chemical processors, laboratories, automotive operations, and more generate liquid waste that require proper containment, labeling, and disposal under EPA and DOT regulations. IBC totes provide a practical, reusable, and cost effective solution for industrial liquid waste management at scales from small batches to large volume waste collection.

The choice of IBC material for waste management depends on the properties of the waste. Non-hazardous aqueous waste, process rinse water, and mildly contaminated water streams are well suited to poly caged or stackable IBCs. Hazardous waste streams classified under RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) require UN/DOT certified containers. IBCs with UN31H2 (HDPE) or UN31A (metal) markings confirm the container is rated for Packing Group II or III hazardous materials, as required by 40 CFR Part 265.

For waste management involving flammable solvents, petroleum byproducts, or thermally reactive materials, metal IBCs, stainless steel or carbon steel, are required over HDPE. Carbon steel IBCs are non-UN/DOT approved and appropriate for flammable waste solvents when they need to be collected and handled onsite. Stainless steel IBCs provide additional chemical resistance for corrosive waste streams, halogenated solvents, and are UN31A certified for transport.

IBC containment pallet systems provide secondary containment for waste storage as required under EPA regulations when hazardous waste is accumulated in containers. The chemical IBC containment tank with steel stand provides a compliant secondary containment platform for IBC totes used in waste accumulation areas.

Waste Management IBC Use Cases

  • Industrial Process Waste Collection: Wash solutions, spent process fluids, and contaminated water from manufacturing operations.
  • Hazardous Waste Accumulation: UN/DOT certified IBCs for RCRA regulated waste storage per 40 CFR 265. Containers must be closed, labeled “Hazardous Waste,” and compatible with the waste stream.
  • Flammable Solvent Waste: Carbon steel or stainless steel IBCs for spent solvents and flammable waste prior to recycling or disposal. HDPE is not approved for flammable waste streams.
  • Chemical Production Byproducts: Containment of chemical synthesis byproducts and off-spec materials awaiting reclassification, reprocessing, or authorized disposal.
  • Wastewater Treatment Chemicals: Acids, caustics, coagulants, and flocculants used in industrial wastewater pretreatment systems.
  • Oil & Grease Waste Collection: Used oil, spent lubricants, and oily water from maintenance operations and equipment servicing.
